Steve States started his career in data in 2014. His first 5 years were spent in the government contracting space before fully transitioning to sports in 2019. He got his start in sports as a Data Scientist for the United States Golf Association. At the USGA, he focused on the development of tools and products for golf course superintendents and operators. He also developed models for championship planning, course setup, and equipment standards.
Currently, Steve serves as the Senior Manager of Data Science and Analytics for the Baltimore Ravens. He oversees the data modeling and engineering efforts for the business side of the organization. He works closely with all departments in the organization to optimize business performance and enhance fan experience. This includes fan avidity modeling, data warehouse development, customer journey analysis, ticket pricing, as well as other data driven workflows. He focuses on providing the organization with the tools required to make data driven decisions.
Steve graduated with a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from the Virginia Military Institute. He continued his education, earning an M.S. in Applied and Computational Mathematics from Johns Hopkins University and an M.B.A from the University of Maryland.
